Yes. Steel staircases for loft conversions are one of the most common applications we handle. A fabricated steel stair is well suited to loft conversions because it can be made with a shallower profile than a timber equivalent, making it easier to fit within the constrained floor-to-ceiling heights that many loft conversions involve. We fabricate straight and quarter-turn configurations for loft conversion access, working from your structural engineer's or architect's drawings. We supply builders across Yorkshire including Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Sheffield with loft conversion stairs regularly.

We fabricate steel staircases in a range of configurations depending on the project requirements. These include straight single-flight stairs, quarter-turn stairs with a landing or winder treads, half-turn stairs, and open-riser designs. The structural frame can be built with twin stringers running along each side of the stair or a central spine stringer with cantilevering treads. Treads can be fabricated in open steel grating, chequer plate or flat plate, or we can build the steel frame to accept timber treads which are bolted on separately. Balustrades and handrails are also fabricated as part of the package where required.

We offer a range of finishes suitable for different applications. All steelwork is shot blasted as standard. From there, we can apply a primer coat ready for painting on site, a powder coat in any RAL or BS colour for a durable factory finish. Please confirm your preferred finish when placing your order.

We fabricate staircases to the dimensions and specifications provided on the structural engineer's or architect's drawings. It is the designer's responsibility to ensure the stair geometry complies with Approved Document K, which governs tread depth, riser height, headroom and handrail heights for stairs in habitable buildings. We can fabricate to whatever dimensions are specified. If you are at an early stage of design and want to discuss typical compliant geometries before drawings are finalised, we are happy to talk through the options. All staircases for habitable spaces require building regulations approval.

Steel staircases are more complex to fabricate than standard structural beams and require more time in the workshop. For a straightforward single or quarter-turn residential stair, we typically require two to three weeks from drawing sign-off to delivery. More complex designs with multiple flights, decorative balustrades or specialist finishes will take longer. We will confirm the lead time when you place your order. Given the lead time involved, it is worth getting your order placed as early as possible in the project programme so the stair is ready when the structure is complete.
